Pinkboard: Party Graffiti Wall 58
|
Welcome to 58 '08. Apart from being the number of this Graffiti Wall it is also the name of a campaign by the Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby and Ethel Yarwood.
Oxford Street is thought of as the birth place of the Australian GLBT culture. For many years it has been the home to many of our most famous venues. Some have disappeared: Capriccio's, The Albury, Patches, Ruby Red's, Flo's Palace. Some are still around: The Midnight Shift, The Oxford, (parts of) The Exchange. And some are relative newcomers: ARQ, Slide, The Columbian.
Oxford Street has changed in character over the years, but recently an atmosphere of homophobia and violence has settled over the area. This is especially prevalent on Friday and Saturday nights when many people in various states visit our street to visit the not so gay clubs.
Last month a vigil was held that highlighted the issues, especially apparent police indifference to homophobic violence.
There has been a lot of discussion on what we can do, but no real resolution. We have a number of options:
- ignore the problem and hope it goes away
- give up Oxford St to homophobia and find somewhere else
- take the street back
- find a way to banish the homophobia
The problem is unlikely to go away, so we must face it and do something about it. Finding somewhere else to move to is a problem. We have very few venues in Sydney anywhere except Oxford St. To take the street back we would need to either close down or buy out the venues where the homophobes hang out.
I think the strategy most likely to work getting rid of homophobia by education. There will always be a few, but their impact will be moderated if most people around them are accepting.

Toybox email - LOL!
Funny competition from the Toybox crew, sent out in an e-mail this afternoon:
"The Toybox Silliest YouTube Video Competition"
A new mode of silliness is sweeping across the world - video silliness. It feels as if almost everyone you speak to wants to show you their favourite YouTube video [or similar online streaming video]. And so it begins...you watch one clip, and in the spirit of reciprocity return the favour...as a whiff of silliness drifts through the air...then a time twister touches down - and at next glance it's next Tuesday - next year! Sound familiar?
What:
We'd love to see what's putting a smile on your dial in these weeks leading up to Toybox on Sun 2 March - so much so that we've put aside four free tickets as prizes for the four Toybox members who email us with a link to the best YouTube clips typifying for them the spirit and the silliness of Toybox.
Why:
Because. Oh....and you can use the free ticket you win for you or a friend to join in and be part of the silliness of Toybox Luna Park on Sunday 2 March from noon til 8pm.
When:
You've got one week.....entries close next Wednesday 20 February
at 5:00pm
ARTHOUSE ACTION
We are excited to announce that our headline DJ at the Arthouse on Sunday March 2nd will be KID KENOBI.
Growing up as part of Sydney's early 90's party scene Kid Kenobi became accustomed to the legendary stories of the Hordern days where gay and straight partied together to the freshest music the DJs had to offer. In his mind the gay scene will forever remain a hub of creativity and originality. Needless to say he was more than a little excited to be asked to play a deep and underground set with no 'breaks' at ACTION on Mardi Gras weekend. He is truly excited about being given the opportunity to get back to what inspired him about dance music in the first place: open minds and cutting edge sounds.
He will be ably supported in the main room by Andrew Padula, Scott Pullen and John Devecchis. In the second room we will have Paul Heron from London along with local favourites Kate Monroe and Jeremy Koch.
Tickets for the Arthouse party can be bought online at
http://e-p.com.au/tickets/customer/home.php at SX News, or avoid the booking fee and buy your tickets from us at the Phoenix this Saturday night.
Alternatively they are also available at the Toolshed, Oxford Street. Presale $45 + booking fee
congratulations guys for booking Kid Kenobi - good to see someone dares to book someone else than cox, nissim, moron or other divas.

.
Excuse my ignorance but where is 'Trademark'? Never heard of it before...
Playing an old cd from 2003 - " Shiny Disco Balls "
and it bought back a memory of female DJ in City Live
playing I think a NYE Party ?
Anyone remember her name ? remember go to few parties after that and her hard sets were awesome ?
I just remembered and researched and it was
Sioux Spears.
Thanks for that memory darls. Cant beleive she passed away 3 years ago.
Trademark is at 1 Bayswater Road, Kings Cross.
is kid kenobi playing breaks as he is famous for? would be amusing to see the look on the faces fo a very confused bunch of gay men that night.
ps - ajax was voted number 1. not KK
if you've been listening to KK recently he's moved away from a pure breaks sound. I think he'll be a hit for ACTION. It's a great choice. I know where I'm going to be sunday night! ACTION ACTION ACTION
Kid Kenobi was voted Australia's #1 DJ 2004,2005,2006 and last year he was voted #2 which is impressive considering he was overseas touring more than any other local DJ.
He won't be playing 'breaks' at ACTION as this not suited to our music policy.
Expect an underground set with lots of electro house.
James & Bruce
i couldnt care less if a dj is number 1, 2 or 47 - thats not why i buy my ticket to a party. dan murphy was ranked in ITM - what does that tell you?

Tiesto -Elements of Life Tour, Hordern Pavilion
Hi all,
Just thought that I would share with you all that Tiesto is bringing his "Elements of Life" tour to Australia. His Sydney gig is 3rd May at the Hordern, however, it sold out without (from what I can see) any advertising - gay or straight!!!
I hear on the grapevine that there may be another concert announced in Sydney - fingers crossed as this is one event that should not be missed.
Press release below:
TIESTO - ELEMENTS OF LIFE TOUR
Presented by: Transmission and Hardware
The world's ultimate Superstar DJ, 1 night only at the Hordern Pavilion.
"Elements of Life", which will take place in over 70 cities across the globe, will support the release of Tiësto's third artist album called "Elements of Life".
Tiësto is a world DJing phenomenon like no other. He has revolutionized the common perception of a DJ’s role. His shelves groan under the weight of countless awards, he has been knighted by the queen of Holland, he has his own sneaker line and a wax statue in Madame Tussaud's.
It’s not surprising that he is titled as the most popular DJ on the planet.
Tiësto’s performance for more than 70.000 people during the ‘Parade of Athletes’ at the Opening Ceremony of the Athens Olympic Games was televised worldwide and viewed by billions of people making him a household name.
"Elements of Life" sees Tiesto once again taking dance music where other DJs and producers have yet to go.
It tells me I can't rely on the panel who selects the list to have any taste lol.e
dj rankings are meaningless
Oh my God! I feel so chuffed. Happy Valentines Day, albeit a little belated as we've been busy with that Pool thingy tomorrow.
Dinner on March 3rd or 4th sounds wonderful Secret Admirer.... unless you want to share the drive round Tasmania in April.
PS Mardi Gras have announced a timber dance floor and partially covered dance floor at Harbour - yay! Now if the audio design that worked in 2005 and 2006 gets used we should be right!

Just had a look at the Toybox photo's for last year and last years New Years Day parties.
http://toyboxparty.com.au/photos.htm
I'm sorry I missed them. Esp. the NYD ones. The lasers and lighting looks absoulutely fantastic. I hope they can get near that quality and style for this years after MG party.
And of course MG is going to be a great warm up with Agnelli & Nelson playing plus all the other great DJ's.
Getting Hyped.

that tells you that dan has got many friends who voted for him. it also tells you if you have friends you can get there too.
it tells me that the whole in the mix ranking should not be a guide.
What type of music does Kid Kenobi play?
Will definately be of the same high standard as all their parties are. Only 15 more days till the silliness begins and what an appropriate venue in the Big Top @ Luna Park. Bring it on........upright and eyes wide open.
breaks - his style is all a bit too noisy for me - even when he's not playing breaks - which is hardly ever
That is such a misinformed comment.
If you're not going to go, don't go. But please do ruin for everyone else or undermine the work of the guys create this event - which has been the best set of nights all year in sydney - with bitchy comments about things you obviously know very little about.
suggest you get off your computer and make the time to go and listen to kid kenobi and hear his present stuff.
he's a great dj and his sound will work extremely well with Action.
Anyone catch James Zabelia at Arq last night? I ended up not being able to go...can imagine it went off!
"he's a great dj and his sound will work extremely well with Action"
I'm looking forward to Action and hearing some new sounds. I might not enjoy every DJ but at least it will be change from the other recoveries on offer and their same old DJ line up.
I suspect a lot of the bitchy/emotional postings are from DJs (or perhaps promoters) and not the opinion of punters. If this is not the case, then everyone has lost perspective as we're talking about dance parties, not gay rights (thats something to get emotional about).
I cant believe some of you posters.
There are screams if a dance party dares use the same DJ's that play Oxford St all the time.
A party decides to use one DJ not normally associated with Oxford St and here comes the posts questioning him.
You cannot go to a party and expect to like every single DJ. I have been going to them for over 20 years now and there is usually one who is not *my* personal taste so I sit it out, talk with friends, walk around. I dont then got on pinkboard and moan the crap out of them. If the dance floor was full during their session then there is nothing to argue about.
And dont dare go near the straight/gay thing. Neil Crawford and Paul Goodyear are/were all welcomed by the gay community. I dont give a rats arse what/who they do in bed. Its about the music , nothing more, nothing less, its all about the music.
You dont like the idea of Kid Kenobi, then dont go. Have some compassion with your comments, the DJ has feelings you know.
Promoters cannot cater to 100% of the crowds tastes. If they get it wrong and its a flop, then come on here and crow your delight and told you so's but until then.......
Police and their doggies.......
Police were out with their sniffer dogs at the Good Vibrations concert last night making 70 arrests for drug possession from a crowd of 40,000. So they will be in for a busy weekend come Mrdi gras eh?
Shift
Friday night @ Shift was heaving, packed all night, and last night was very busy as well
"I dont give a rats arse what/who they do in bed. Its about the music , nothing more, nothing less, its all about the music."
why do most parties advertise with hot, buff looking men on their posters?
compare the party marketing on that weekend: homesexual, dtpm, action etc etc. When I compare the marketing on that basis i have a very different oppinion.
A friend told me they were at the Midnight Shift Club on Friday night (well 2am Saturday)
And they were on King St Newtown on Saturday night around 11pm. Lots of police and some dogs - sniffing randomly along the street.
RUBYs VOLUME 6 CD
WOW what a fabulous CD, for any of those trance lovers out there GET ONE. I brought my at Fair Day yesterday which was SOOOOOOOOO much fun.
Harbour Party
Fine & sunny 24 degrees forecast for this Sunday - perfect for Harbour Party!
Huh ?
not talking about advertising.
Was talking about the implied straight DJ playing at a gay party.
So thats where the line " dont give a rats........"
comes in.
is there going to be a launch party for this one? the last launch party where they filmed that dvd was great.
cheers.

YES I think its on Saturday the 22nd of March from 11pm at the Midnight Shift. I'll let you know tomorrow if thats incorrect.
what a fun weekend

fair day, phoenix, and a hot new trademark... WHAT A COOL NEW PLACE FOR SYDNEY!!! will be back again this sunday as alex and kate were playing great house music... and they had a great balcony for the smokers.
MG and Toybox...
So im going to MG party, then to toybox (both parties are my first time!!) and was wondering... should i leave MG and attemt at having a few hours sleep, then onto toybox? Or soldier on after mardi gras, go somewhere for a bit, then head to toybox (showering and changing in between ofcourse). What will others doing both be doing?
I'm doing both too (God knows how) and I'm definitely going to try to get some sleep in between the two, even if it's just 3 or 4 hours. I won't cope otherwise. Can't wait. Those two are going to absolutely go off! Such a shame that it looks like the doggies will be out in full force. A mate of mine went to Good Vibes and 3 out of 10 of their group got done for having goodies. Frightening!
Yes, i think i will try n get sleep too... seems like the sensible option now... i dont think i'd cope without any either... Daym! police dogs huh... my mates went to good vibes too, no trouble tho... sheesh to risk or not to risk getting arrested now... LOL lifes full of difficult choices! oh well, atleast now ive got the sleep query under control...
Yeah, get a few forty twinks. Or winks.
You won't regret it!
I heard from someone at the State Theatre that Cyndi Lauper is going to be doing a short show at Harbour Party. Now that really would rock!
Definately have some sleep inbetween.
Your body will thank you.
But stay at MG until the end, there will no doubt be a fabulous closing show. Olivia Newton John, Cyndi Lauper, Kelly Clarkson, the rumor mill is insane - one of them will close the party this year.
The Volume 6 launch party is set for Sunday the 23rd of March at the Shift (there's a public holiday on the Monday after).
I'd rate this cd as Ruby's best yet.
At Fairday the Ruby tent was going off, I spent most of the day dancing around there, it was far better than the official entertainment.
And the jumping castle was great fun Gary
I wonder if they will film this cd launch? still waiting for the blu ray from the last one. lol
whos playing - does anyone know?
cheers
My God I am down for 3 Parties: MG,Toybox & Offer Nissim @ Homesexual. Leaving Mg around 7am for a root and a sleep till 1pm, get to Toybox around 2pm stay til end, head home and rest til midnight for Offer Nissim. Luckily after that have a week off to rest and recover. I am getting really excited now......

THAT sort of partying is being completely disrespectful to your body. Think twice before you do something as foolish as that.
For me its Mardi Gras on Saturday night, sleep all day Sunday and then head out Sunday night.

Unfortunately Ruby could not get licencing approval to include a couple of the Volume 5 tracks on a DVD release so it is unlikely that the DVD / Blu Ray for Volume 5 will ever be released.
The good news is he has gained licencing approval for all tracks on Ruby Trance Volume 6 to be released on CD and DVD!

Might explain last weekend
........
SYDNEY, Feb 19 AAP - Police will move into another stage of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour after more than 800 arrests in a weekend blitz across the state, the NSW government says.
Police Minister David Campbell and NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione today revealed the outcome of Operation Mega Vikings, in which 3,500 extra police patrols targeted wanted criminals, street crime and anti-social actions.
The operation was divided in two phases, Mr Campbell said, targeting known offenders during the day and anti-social activities at night.
He said 824 arrests were made during the three-day blitz, with police enforcing outstanding warrants, locking up criminals, policing licensed premises and manning extra random breath testing units.
About 2,000 people were searched, leading to the seizure of 30 weapons, he said.
Mr Scipione said the blitz succeeded in catching repeat offenders, who were responsible for much of the state's crime.
"Many of those people that were identified had warrants outstanding or had breached bail," he said.
"We know 80 per cent of our crime is committed by 20 per cent of our people."
The extra 800 police for the crackdown had been found by offering shifts to officers with days off, Mr Scipione said.
"We extend the availability by putting them on overtime and cancel the rest days," he said.
Operation Vikings would roll into Vision 3, targeting rail crime using police and rail security in a three month operation.
"We will be moving from Mega Vikings which was running for the last three days to Vision 3, which is around 200 police working our transport system," Mr Scipione said.
Mr Campbell said it would entail a concentrated effort of law enforcement between NSW police and state rail officers.
While transit officers were not railway police, they were "there to provide some revenue enforcement and they are also there as security guards", he said.
"They can disrupt, they don't have the right of arrests."
Yea i will def be staying to the end! Thats a given! where are the shows usually held? Horden or RHI? and they are usually like intermission between DJ sets right? God i cant wait!!
Gay Bash
It looks as if Gay Bash has ignored all the press about their name. There is a row of posters right on Whitlam Square. I think there is also a big ad in one of the street music press.
We were in line at last year's Mardi Gras Party. As we got closer to getting in, the cops & a dog came up & down our line. Two girls got busted in front of us by the dog & lead away. Immediately in the aftermath of confusion a girl rushed up to take their (now vacant) place, pretended to say something to the person in front us us (as we were the ones being pushed in on) who looked at here weird like he didn't know her. Then we realised she had just queue jumped (and I wonder if had something on her).
Anyone else seen this tactic?

Interesting comments..... My last few weeks have consisted of 60 hour weeks, next week im on site for the party set up which is at least another 60 hours, then im working the party night, hosting drinks at my apartment on Sunday day then going to Offer Nissim Sunday night. Sure im going to be buggered but its Mardi Gras, and the 30th Anniversary.... and I cant wait. I have been taking my vitamins and eating greens each night, been getting 6-8 hours of sleep a night and im ready for it. I think lots of people are doing similar to me in preparation for one of the best party weekends in decades.
maybe he is young and stupid. by the events he is attending im guessing 14.5yo
I'm nearly 40 and I'll be doing Mardi Gras, Toybox and Homesexual (maybe even carrying on after that if I feel like it).
I do treat my body like a temple and it's a very fit and toned temple quite capable of handling those parties with a few disco naps in between. Admittedly I'll be a bit shabby the following week, but that's why I'll be taking it off to rest and recover. Having done it many times before I know that the only thing I will have to 'suffer' afterwards is a lot of very happy memories.
If you aren't up to doing the number of parties that other people are, why do you feel the need to snipe at those that can? I refuse to let you impose some sort of limit on the amount of enjoyment I intend to extract from that weekend.
I hope you enjoy whatever parties you intend to go to. I'll be going to as many as I feel up to, and I'll be the judge of that and not you or anyone else.

Oh Dear, here I am turning 48 on March 2nd and there are three parties I HAVE to go to on that day, the end of Mardi Gras party, ALL of Toybox and then on to DTPM at Tank. Is there no Mercy! Yet, I'll still be standing by the end of the night, not looking very pretty, but still standing!

Residents win court battle against Darlinghurst night club
Hi all - article re T2....
Good news!
A Taylor Square night club operating without development approval and without an entertainment licence has been forced to suspend entertainment activities under a judgement handed down in the Land & Environment Court yesterday.
The owners of the T2 night club at Taylor Square, Darlinghurst which also includes the T2 Basement (formerly known as Manacle Bar) and Vegas Lounge can continue operating as a hotel but cannot offer public entertainment such as a night club.
The City of Sydney Council commenced legal proceedings against the operators of the premises in late 2007 following repeated requests for the premises to comply with building and safety standards. An inspection by City Officers found the building failed to comply with fire and safety guidelines with 50 deficiencies requiring immediate attention.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP said the court decision is a win for local residents and nearby businesses and follows years of complaints about anti-social behaviour including crime, noise and violence from patrons leaving and arriving.
"There have been ongoing complaints about this premise, particularly on weekends when a day club operates effectively creating 24-hour trading," Ms Moore said.
"Large numbers of patrons, many from outside the area, congregate and there have been serious ongoing impacts on local amenity, disturbance to neighbours and violence.
"While late night venues help create a vibrant city, poorly managed premises impact on residents' safety and amenity. Sydney has the greatest concentration of 24-hour and late-night trading licensed premises in Australia with nearly 2,000 licensed premises including over 400 licensed hotels, clubs and nightclubs.
"There needs to be a balance between providing late night entertainment and ensuring a safe and pleasant living environment for the City's 165,000 residents," Ms Moore said.
The Court Order against the Taylor Square hotel prohibits the use of the premises as a place of public entertainment unless a development application is granted and operating. No development application has been lodged at this time.
The operator must also restrain from advertising, leasing or licensing the premises for purpose of public entertainment and restrain from further internal or external building works without development consent.
The Court also ordered the operator to pay the City's legal expenses.
So, Brad, is it better to take vitamins at night or in the morning?
I take a slow release multivitamin each morning.
Hey FiremanSam
either or like I do both. Nothing massively strong but anti oxidant in the morning and multi vitamin at night.
Oh and be careful of slow release as some vitamins need to be absorbed in the stomach and as your stomach empties itself every so often , they can be wasted as cannot then be absorbed in the bowel etc.
Hence why I take morning and night.
And dont take mega doses, these can cause more problems as you can actually poison the body with some vitamin B
and others . Takes years but can happen.
Best thing is lots of good long sleeps leading up and a Nanna nap in the arvo on the day if you can. Works for me.
Wow fantastic news! We always knew that place was dodgey. Let's hope this sticks
So all we need now is for some gay entrepreneur to buy the place paint it pink, put a big stilleto on top and turn it into a fabulous cafe/gay bar/nightclub, with the right Council approvals of course. Lovely outside seating with rainbow unbrella's for the cafe section. Sounds noise real noise.....
i hope everyone can see what happened to manacle now. all the licensing police visits during bent, stopped music etc.
manacle wouldnt make any changes to that place unless the buidling was theirs. unfortunately it didnt happen and moving manacle out was the right decision.
T2 still used the manacle space even after (them saying) it was shut by the council. the article above clearly says why the council shut it down.
i could not be happier that t2 lost their entertaining license. they deserved it.
Phoenix rising or Taxi Club?
Hi everyone,
Coming to Sydney from interstate, heard about the very popular day club "Phoenix rising" is worth having a look. just realised Manacle is taking over Taxi club for 2 weeks. Where should I go in the morning? Will there be a cover charge?
Its wonderful to hear about everyone's party plans for the weekend.
I'm 47, and going to Mardi Gras and Action. This is my 30th year out on the scene.
The Action party after Sleaze was amazing, some of the best music I've heard at a party for a long time.
Have done Toybox many times (and its always fabulous), but for me, a big sleep all day helps to iron out the wrinkles so I can go out on the Sunday night!
After party, I take vitamins (Multi, C, E, 5HTP), eat some fresh fruit, and try to eat something healthy before going out the following night.
Have a great weekend boys!
Not long to go now.
With Mardi Gras on the brink of selling out, Toybox almost selling out and a fabulous line-up catering for EVERYONE - this really is the year of a decent party revival.
Everyone seems exciting, whether they're doing the big parties or not.
Let's just hope for some sunshine.
Great news about Mardi Gras tickets selling out! Apart from for those who have been tardy in getting theirs of course.
Any idea how many tickets were sold? 15,000? 20,000? More?
ive heard of 5HTP but don't know what it is. i hear it's great for post big night out recoveries. is that right?
Well the good thing about Mardi Gras selling out is that you can almost be guaranteed that there will be a knock on effect for the post MG parties which havent yet sold out as people who didn't get their MG ticket start buying whatever tickets they can. So expect to see Toybox, Homesexual, Action, Woofclub, DPTM all sell out on the back of the success of the Mardi Gras party this year! hurray for everyone!

9 DAYS TILL TOYBOX
Hip Hip Hurray!
5HTP is a naturally occurring amino acid, and a serotonin precursor. It is believed to increase the brain's production of serotonin.
So, it is thought to lessen post-dance party depression, and help rebuild serotonin levels in the brain.
Take 100mg before and after the party on an empty stomach. Also take for a few days after as well.
You will have to order from the U.S. as its not sold here. Plenty of internet sites selling it.
"You will have to order from the U.S. as its not sold here."
5HTP is in fact sold in Australia. Easy - just google it and you'll find gym and/or health food stores who will mail it to you. I believe you can get it over the counter in Queensland in fact. I highly recommend it.

From
Wikipedia:
"5-HTP raises blood serotonin levels, and because of the risks associated with elevated levels it should only be taken under the advice of a medical professional."
As Paul Dillon says:
"Remember: if you do not want any negative consequences, do not use the drug and, no matter how many times you have used a substance, never be blasé."
The best thing for your body after partying is to rest and let it rebuild itself. Plenty of fluids, fresh fruit and healthy food plus loads of sleep. Works every time.
Yep agree.
I dont over indulge anymore. Actually time myself eg if the line isnt working then dont have another one straight away and wait for another 2 hours before doing and last about 4am.
Then home for some sleep with some assistance. Then when get up usually Weet Bix

its easy to get down than the dry stuff. Lots of water with the odd multi vitamin.
Some good food in the arvo and dvd with friends and then another good nights sleep. No more partying for me.
My advice with taking 5-htp is to be careful. My blood pressure ended up extremely high - almost stroke material..... but everyone is different.
If you do take it, then get a check up from your Doc.

Yes its getting really exciting now eh,Gary? Wish it was tomorrow.....
Gunna be a great weekend in the Hordern @ Mardi Gras, in the Big Top @ Toybox and in the Trance room after Offer Nissim @ Homesexual.
All I can say is WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO
SOLD OUT???
I just heard tickets for Indulgence are now sold out. Can anyone confirm this. I hope we haven't missed out
We bought our tickets early yesterday evening at the Shift with running numbers 0577 and 0578. Not sure if that is any indication and am not sure of capacity of venue.
Party madness
I've had several phone calls yesterday from desperate friends looking for tickets to Mardi gras. Maybe MG will release a few hundred tickets on the night to stop the scalpers.
I am so looking forward to MG and Action this year!
Will it be ugly out there on Oxford Street?
With T2 now closed will be interesting to see what happens when all the bogans turn up tonight at their venue and find it closed. Where will they disperse too?
Could get a bit ugly eh?
Toybox
Toybox about to sell out.
Yippee! All the big ones are going out now...
Good point about T2.
Someone should open the doors and let the place full with "da fully sik cu&tz" and then blow the place up.
Two birds with one explosive.
maybe not the best show of tolerance and acceptance, which is of course something we like to be reciprocated...
and ten points to the person who is bringing the pensioner friend to the party. nice to see people out there care about their friends enough to plan to see them smile
shift's capacity is cca 600 (+/- 50)
theres so much on, i think most of it will be sold out. hot action at arthouse, amazing soul avengerz at dtpm, dirty woofclub & sweatty indulgence. get your tickets now!
recovery on monday morning at phoenix till 3pm & manacle (taxi club till very late!)
cant wait!
Wow i cant wait for Toybox! I heard the lasers there are phenominal!!
Parramatta club?
Can anyone tell me, have the dances at the Parramatta Club, Hunters Street, finished? Is the group (4play) still active somewhere else? Wot's going on? Thanks, Kelly
TOYBOX
Has toybox tickets sold out yet??
Wenty leagues sold off the parramatta club late last year effectively closing the venue
Are the other parties selling out too?
So now that Mardi Gras has sold out (Congrats NMG) is this having a flow on effect to all the other parties like Harbour Party, Toybox, Homosexual, Action, DTPM, Indulgence etc? So much on offer next weekend eh?
Hey Gary only seven more sleeps till Toybox!!!
Woo Hoo!!!
TOYBOX ABOUT TO SELL OUT!
Let's hope people learnt their lesson from the MG experience and BUY their tickets if they don't already have!
---
From an email they just sent out:
On this, the eve of our GLBTQ 'week of weeks' we're thrilled to hear that all is right with the world - that the sky hasn't fallen and that 'Sold Out' is the order of the day.
In the spirit of the silly season - because we want you, our members to know ahead of the broader community, clearly and unambiguously: Toybox is about to sell out.
You most likely have your Toybox tickets or you've placed your order and they're on their way to you. Either way,we're consummately corybantic that you're joining us for this singularly special day of play.
If you have friends who are planning to come to the party who don't yet have their tickets, please pass on this message to them.
Light the blue touch paper and cue the silliness as we ready ourselves for that special time when daytime is playtime once more!
Yes you wouldn't want to miss the next best party to MG.
Toybox @ Luna Park is gunna be a hoot. Got my tix early and so have all my mates. Don't miss out on this one either is all I can say. Bring the silliness on.
What a weekend next week is gunna be and their is such a buzz in the air already with anticipation. And when all the os and interstate guests are here we can really reclaim Oxford Street as ours.

Toybox Toybox Toybox
ARGGGHHHH 1 week today to this exact hour ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGH how will I sleep before then.
-Garys Party Schedule-
MARDI GRAS
2200-0800
CLASSIC ANTHEMS with RUBY & Co (Midnight Shift)
0800-1130
TOYBOX LUNA PARK
1200-2000
Gary, you are gunna be one exhausted boy after all that partying one after another. Enjoy yourself. Mind you I will be the same but its gunna be worth it.
I will be in the Hordern @ Mardi Gras all night, besides checking out Jack Chang in the Dome for a bit of Tribal around 3am. Home for a few hours sleep before heading out to Toybox around 1pm for all that silliness as only they can put on - definately staying till the end for their spectacular finale. Then head home for a few hours rest before out again to Offer Nissim @ Homesexual.
Will be hibernating for the rest of the week after.
Roll on next weekend is all I can say, it's getting really exciting now.......
Gay Parramatta
Shame about Hunter Street, as far as I know it was the only club around these parts used to host gay dances. OK, am I allowed to mention here that I run discreet parties for mature-aged gay guys? Sorry if I'm breaking any golden rules but the web site is
http://gayparramatta.com
ok, home from harbour party...it worked.. all though jason should of ramped it up a lot more towards the end.. it had a lot of potential. not many visible drama's this year too........

Last night
Hello. Heard that Arq was absolutely slamming last night and the Shift had very few people in it. Is that odd - for it to be so out of balance? Heard it was a great night at Arq...
I don't know what the go is. Shift is a superior venue, with a much better music policy, and a much better door policy. Perhaps that's the problem, they're so strict on weeding out the undesirables, whereas Arq isn't.
harbour party was ok but just not enough people a shame. fagtag at oxford art factory was pretty empty too. looks like arq have the edge!
Arq always has a bumper gay crowd on Sunday nights and at $5 entry no wonder. Not sure if Shift has been a Sunday night venue (unless its Indulgence) - mainly Fri & Sat nights and struggling to pull crowds on those nights anyway.
It annoys me that everyone cotinued to support Harbour Party when it was being run by the incompetent Iris Group - the last few years I think were sell outs. And the first year it is taken back over by NMG (in an attempt to fix everything) it gets less support. The wrong people are being punished
I think the raid and closedown last year may have been a sticking point for some people. It's a very public venue made even more so yesterday by the crowd on the foreshore for the Two Queens. Also, it didn't seem to get the marketing profile it's had in previous years and lots of people were probably unaware that NMG had taken it over. It might take a year or so to take off under new management.
Well Johnny I have never supported any of them but my view on it is not so much everyone wanted to support Iris and not NMG is the disastrous party last year and its just a flow on effect to this years party no matter who would have been running it.
Now that it seems that it was completely successful, next year should see more people attending.
Yeah that is what I have been waiting to hear. We are in for one silly fun time @ Toybox, Luna Park.
Bet Brett is up there smiling down on it all......
See all you silly punters there with your big smiles on.
Can't wait for Toybox. Had no doubt it would sell out. So much for all those negative ninnies saying Toybox wouldn't - and also for all those who believed the trance fans wouldn't pack out Mardi Gras either.
Two sold out gigs... both about a week out. Enough said.
Toyboxer, I just tried the link that you provided. The Toybox site still allows you to select how many tickets you want. There is no mention on the site that the tickets have sold out.
Refresh your page. It is probably cacheing from the last time you went there. The tickets page reads:
Toybox in The Big Top at Luna Park, Sydney - Sunday 2 March has sold out. If you already have your ticket or you've placed your order at the Toybox Secure Online Store, congratulations! We're looking forward to seeing you at your Toybox best this Sunday!
Important information about your ticket
Your ticket cannot be used for entry or replaced if it is lost, stolen, destroyed or rendered illegible. So that your Toybox day runs as smoothly as possible, please treat your ticket like cash and store it in a safe place and remember to bring it with you to Luna Park on Sunday.
Luminere ticket holders: In our book, you're the cat's pyjamas! Thank you so very much for your support! As you're probably aware, your ticket is valid for entry into Toybox this Sunday.
And then....while it's by no means compulsory, we encourage you to bring a toy with you to be donated to the Children's Hospital at Westmead.
Why not double your fun and go on a toy shopping expedition with a friend?
Toybox has ONLY sold out because mardi gras sold out first and desperate party goers who missed out on Mardi Gras have snapped up Toybox tickets late in proceedings viewing it as the next best option.
Lets not kid ourselves here, If Mardi Gras tickets were still on sale then so would Toybox.
Well its great there is a Toybox party so all the guys that missed on Mardi Gras can go to a great party its always magic party.

Anything for Women?
Anyone know of any after-parade-parties for women OTHER than the official party at moore park? Need an alternative!
Let's do something unusual here and be a bit positive about this , shall we?...I would like anything by Donna Summer please?
OMG! Retro with 2 of our favourite Disk Jockey's! These guys give good Retro... Excuse us while we relive our Mardi Gras Retro moment with these 2 gorgeous guys
Can't wait!
David, Justin and a number of sydney dj's will always play requests whenever practical. Just depends on how you ask and how appropriate the song is.
why do you just listen JGril ? why dont you go and support you favourite club if you have such concerns?
your post are not helping anything. it would be different if you were not just listening, went to shift and were telling us what a fab space it is and how great the music was. then maybe someone would think "yeah i may give it a go as well"
...what did you actually tried to say with this post? (im kind of getting confused reading all of yours)
I'd love Knights In Black Leather by Better Midler
What was I trying to say with MY post? Have you actually re-read your post? I am finding that difficult to understand.
I don't actually remember saying I had any concerns, it was simply a comment and an observation (based on information I received). Not sure what you're confused about ("reading all yours"), it's not like I've posted a lot lately.
Oh and PS, my poster name is actually JGirl, not JGril.

Justin and I are really looking forward to this friday night upstairs at the Shift...Retro is always a lot of fun, so why not start this fabulous weekend with us...any requests ????
